Relationship Building and Interior Design

This is the third house that I have designed for Louise. She is an expansive, courageous soul who takes on challenges with a bit of humor,a full circle of thought and a spirit of adventure.

All this being said, she has sold her house in Frenchman’s Reverse in Florida and is moving to a small but wonderful enclave called Jupiter Inlet in Florida within eye sight of the beach. The first house that I did for her was in Franklin lakes. It was a wonderful French Chateau styled home in a valley of approximately seven acres. The house and the setting were spectacular.

We met through a client referral and we have been working together since 2000. It has been nineteen years of relationship building and interior design that is built on intellectual and spiritual trust. This is what a Designer should do. When you establish this trust, you get to really understand the aesthetic of the person you are dealing with. Relationship building and Interior Design, if done properly, takes  not only the pretty pictures the client may give you to show you what she likes, but it allows for a relationship to develop that exposes the strengths and weaknesses of the clients design aesthetic and the reasons for the design you are developing, therefor creating not only a lovely room or home, but creating an environment that achieves the clients goal and inner soul of their aesthetic.

Relationship building and Interior Design is an intimate process.  Both the client and designer reveal themselves over time, a therapy of sorts and , as a designer, I understand what the client is about. My preference is to design individual projects that are very different from one another. When you get inside the psyche of a client it creates a type of visual “automatic writing”. When I look at a project for the first time and a client asks what do I see, I tell them all the same thing, “I see one thing now, but in a short time and meetings I will see what is best for you.

Relationship building and Interior Design brings out the best in the client’s project and also eliminates the unnecessary step of finding a new designer with each house you build. I have traveled to Florida, Texas, California and Vermont.

To see how Relationship building and Interior Design interact, look at the photos of the wonderful project I am developing with Louise and follow the progress. It will be finished in five months.
